Overview
Moozhiyar Dam is a part of the Kakkad Hydroelectric Project, plays a critical role in power generation and water management in Kerala. The dam, situated in Seethathodu, releases water used for power generation into the Moozhiyar reservoir. As a key component of the Sabarigiri Augmentation Scheme, the Upper Moozhiyar Dam is an earthen dam constructed across the Moozhiyar River. The Sabarigiri Hydroelectric Project, to which this dam belongs, is the second largest hydroelectric project in Kerala. The dam is crucial for irrigation and hydropower, contributing significantly to the region’s water security.
