- By Train : The nearest railway station is Ernakulam, with Ernakulam South railway station located 3 hr 20 min (118.6 km) via NH85. Kottayam railway station is another option, 3 hr 29 min (133.4 km) via Neriamangalam Painavu Road. The onward journey to Idukki from both Cochin and Kottayam can be completed either by bus or by hiring a private taxi.
- By Road : Numerous bus services, both private and government, are available from Cochin to Idukki. Upon reaching the bus station, visitors can hire a taxi to reach the interiors of Idukki.
