Kerala Kalamandalam, located in Cheruthuruthy, is celebrated as the world’s most prestigious Kathakali school. Founded in 1930 by the legendary Malayalam poet Vallathol Narayana Menon, this esteemed institution was established to revive interest in Kathakali and other traditional art forms. Today, it stands as a leading center for various traditional performing arts, including Mohiniyattam, Kutiyattam, Thullal, and Nangiarkoothu, and is recognized as an official deemed University for Art and Culture.
Kalamandalam offers comprehensive training in Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Kutiyattam, Panchavadyam, Thullal, Mridangam, and Karnatic music.
