The Paradesi Synagogue, established in 1568, is a symbol of the Jewish community’s long history in Kochi. Located in Jew Town, Mattancherry, the synagogue is adjacent to the Mattancherry Palace temple. It is renowned for its exquisite architecture, featuring hand-painted blue and white Chinese porcelain tiles, which are each uniquely crafted. The synagogue houses numerous historical artifacts, including the Scrolls of the Law, ancient copper plates detailing grants of privilege made by the local rulers, and gold and silver crowns gifted by various patrons. The Belgian glass chandeliers hanging from the high ceiling add to the grandeur of the synagogue, making it a significant cultural and historical landmark in Kerala.
