Thazhathangadi Juma Masjid, located 3 km from Kottayam Railway Station, is one of India’s oldest mosques, with a history spanning over 1000 years. Situated on the banks of the Meeachil River, it was built by Habib Dinar, son of Malik Dinar, who introduced Islam to India. Known as the ‘Taj Juma Masjid,’ this mosque is a protected monument of Kerala and played a significant role in the region’s Freedom Struggle. Its architecture features traditional Kerala style with intricate wooden carvings and a unique well with temple-like stone steps. Women devotees can visit the mosque on April 24th and May 8th.
