Overview

The Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple, located 14 km south of Alappuzha in Kerala, is a renowned Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. Built between the 15th and 17th centuries by the ruler of Chembakasserry, the temple features an idol of Krishna carved from black granite. Known for its delicious prasadam, Ambalapuzha Palpayasam, the temple is a major pilgrimage site and is often called the Dwaraka of the South. It is also historically significant as the idol from Guruvayoor Temple was housed here during Tipu Sultan’s raids in 1789.
